Why is God Invisible?

Why is God Invisible?
Have you ever asked yourself, “If God created this, why is He invisible?” Or, “How can I believe in an invisible God?”
The short answer is that God is spirit. The Judeo-Christian Scriptures say in John 4:24, “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
So God is a “spirit”, but what is a “spirit”?
Connecting Two Dimensions — The Physical and The Spiritual
Almost every Christian knows “The Lord’s Prayer” by heart and has it committed to memory.
It goes…
‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
‘Give us this day our daily bread.
‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’ (Matthew 6:8-13).
Jesus taught this prayer to His followers, who still exist today even though Jesus has gone on to Heaven.
Notice that it acknowledges that God (Our Father) dwells in heaven. That is a separate dimension from the physical dimension we live in. Then, notice that we ask that God’s will be done on earth as in heaven. God is a connection between the heavenly dimension and the earthly dimension. There are two dimensions (at least) in which God exists: heaven and earth.
All Christians believe that higher dimensions exist, and we go on to dwell in them after our lives end in this temporary physical existence.
Scripture teaches us that we are also spirits and that God, Who calls us His children, connects with us in spirit. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.”
Defining the Spiritual Realm
There is more than just the physical universe. There is also a spiritual universe. Whether it is similar in size to our universe or much larger, and whether it overlays us concentrically or is out there beyond this universe in its own sphere – it doesn’t matter. We don’t know. But we know it exists, and Albert Einstein, who first theorized it, called it the Multiverse.
The Multiverse is what we refer to as a spiritual universe. So, let’s begin to define the spiritual universe and why we don’t have to fear it as a world filled with ghosts, ghouls, and other scarey stuff like that. Let’s take the superstition out of it.
Defining Spirit

Merriam-Webster online defines “Spirit“
A supernatural being or essence: such as…
a: HOLY SPIRIT
b: SOUL
c: An often malevolent being that is bodiless but can become visible, specifically: GHOST
d: A malevolent being that enters and possesses a human being like a devil, demon, or
fallen angel
We also refer to beings living in the higher dimensions as “supernatural”. So, let’s define what that is.
Defining Supernatural

Merriam-Webster online defines “supernatural“
1: of or relating to an order of existence beyond the visible observable
2a: departing from what is usual or normal especially so as to appear to transcend the laws
of nature
b: attributed to an invisible agent (such as a ghost or spirit)
For our purpose, these definitions apply to going beyond the natural physical dimension into higher dimensions.
Spirit is a word we use to refer to life in a spiritual universe. There is a difference between the Spiritual universe and the physical universe.
Defining the Physical Universe
We’re all familiar with the physical universe, but let’s define it so we aren’t assuming and we are all on the same page about what we mean when we talk about the physical universe.
Physical Defined

Merriam-Webster online defines “physical“
1a: of or relating to natural science
b(1): of or relating to physics
(2): characterized or produced by the forces and operations of physics
2a: having material existence: perceptible especially through the senses and subject to the
laws of nature, everything physical is measurable by weight, motion, and resistance—
Thomas De Quincey
b: of or relating to material things
Universe Defined

Merriam-Webster online defines “universe“
1: the whole body of things and phenomena observed or postulated : COSMOS: such as
a: a systematic whole held to arise by and persist through the direct intervention of divine
power
b: the world of human experience
c(1): the entire celestial cosmos
(2): MILKY WAY GALAXY
(3): an aggregate of stars comparable to the Milky Way galaxy
2: a distinct field or province of thought or reality that forms a closed system or self-
inclusive and independent organization
Since these words are defined separately, putting them together, we define the following…
Physical Universe:
“The whole body of things having material existence; perceptible especially through the senses and subject to the laws of nature”.
In other words, we can use our senses of sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch, and reasoning to understand the world around us. Our senses and ability to reason are physical attributes. As you know, intuitively, we can experience both material things, like riding a bike, and immaterial things, like feeling fear with our senses and reasoning. But these are all things we experience with our physical bodies.
When we are referring to the physical universe we live in, we interchange the terms “natural” and “physical” and “material” to mean the same thing.
We sometimes refer to the physical universe as the “Natural Universe”. So, when we refer to the supernatural, we refer to things that exist beyond the natural universe. Super means “beyond”, so supernatural means beyond the natural.
Given our definitions above, we define the Spiritual Universe:
“The whole body of things beyond the visible, observable, physical universe especially relating to God”. And especially relating to human beings who have a spirit.
Just as there is a Physical Universe we are all familiar with, there is a Spiritual Universe we can’t see because it’s in a higher dimension.
Higher Dimensions Than the Natural Universe — A Scientific Perspective
Furthermore, science has discovered the Spiritual Universe, though they don’t refer to it as “spiritual”. It has more dimensions than our universe, so we refer to it as a “higher dimension”. We think of it as being like layers of an onion, with each layer of the onion a different dimension. Universes of increasingly greater dimensions exist in the same place. Science calls the whole thing the “Multiverse“.

Albert Einstein
Albert Einstein was a brilliant scientist who lived at the turn of the twentieth century. He formulated foundational theories in the development of things we use today. He developed a “Theory of Relativity” that predicted universes in higher dimensions.
Those dimensions coexist with our natural universe. He called them “The Multiverse“.
In the “Theory of Relativity“, Einstein predicted that higher dimensions would have doorways called “warps” in time/space. That’s a scientific way of saying space warps and doorways open into higher dimensions. Nobody knows what would happen if you tried to go through those doorways, but science believes you would die trying.
Recently, Cosmologists developed a peer repeatable process to observe warps in time/space. That means that scientists found a way to see doorways into higher dimensions. It’s a valid scientific process because scientists can independently repeat it. The science community respects and accepts the process as valid science.
So, higher dimensions are no longer theory. We have actually seen them. They do exist. It is no longer just a theory but a scientific fact. As is popular to say today, it’s “settled science”.
Albert Einstein defined these warps as windows into higher dimensions. And that makes higher dimensions a real thing.
That’s an important point because it means invisible life can exist in higher dimensions, and saying so is no longer superstitious stuff. Discussion about spirits is no longer fantasy “ghost stories” but a real phenomenon. Below, we will talk about why that’s important.
The thing about higher dimensions is that science really has no way to study them. It’s not that they don’t exist; it has been proven on paper. But we are constrained by three-dimensional time/space and can only perceive physical things. Science is objective and relies on observable facts to be convinced something is real.
If you can’t perceive it, you can’t study it, right?
Why We Can’t Study Higher Dimensions
Our problem in studying higher dimensions is that we cannot change ourselves into four-dimensional beings. That means we aren’t equipped with the senses a four-dimensional being would have to understand that world. Because of this, science can’t study higher dimensions by observation.

Science can usually only study higher dimensions when theorizing about them. The only time we could study higher dimensions unless religion holds answers, is when they intersect our physical dimensions. It is difficult to physically observe an intersection between our dimensions because they are rare events, and we have to be there when they occur.
So, the focus of science is usually on the physical universe. Focusing on the physical universe doesn’t mean that higher dimensions don’t exist.
But that’s why you don’t see a lot of science about higher dimensions or life that may be in them. Being unable to explore those worlds, scientists just don’t study them. Some scientists are theorizing about them all the time, though. And religion, particularly the Abrahamic faiths, have an understanding of life in the higher dimensions.
From Higher Dimensions to Higher Life Forms
Higher dimensions exist, and life can exist in the higher dimensions. Things that the Christian and Jewish Scriptures depict about life in higher dimensions aren’t so far-fetched after all. There may truly be an invisible God behind the beginnings of the physical universe…and more. This website asserts there is a God.

That’s a lot of complicated information to absorb and understand. It’s a little confusing, too, at first. It gets easier, we promise.
Please note that you don’t need to understand all of the science in the links this website provides to explore with us. We use the links to show that they support our assertions. We want to be as open and transparent as possible. That way, we avoid the appearance of manipulating information and dishonestly describing our perspective. We encourage investigation and believe it enhances understanding.
Flatland – a model to understand higher dimensions
We can quickly get a better understanding, so let’s understand it! “Flatland” by Edwin Abbott is a book that can help us understand higher dimensions by illustrating how a two-dimensional world can have three-dimensional creatures above and below it, and the flat beings on the plane of Flatland are unaware of them – they are invisible to two-dimensional beings. This is key to understanding why higher dimensions are invisible to us.
Take a look at the link on Flatland for a short video that illustrates how beings from lower dimensions can miss a whole universe going on around them in higher dimensions.
Witnessing an Interaction Between Dimensions
People witnessing an intersection between three-dimensional (3D) and four-dimensional (4D) worlds might describe such interactions as “ghosts” or “UFOs”, and on the other side of that, skeptics might call those who have experienced such things “intellectually deficient”…even superstitious and backward. In both cases, those theories expose a need for more knowledge and understanding. Those with false theories need to investigate further.

Judeo-Christian Scriptures (the Christian Bible) depict such accounts of higher-dimensional beings materializing in our three-dimensional world.
See Ezekial 1, 1 Samuel 28:5-19, Matthew 17:1-8, Mark 9: 2-8, and Luke 9:28-36. And there are other examples.
Suppose these Biblical accounts of interactions do happen. What if these are examples of interaction between our dimension and higher dimensions? This kind of thing is very unusual, and most people have never experienced anything like it, so they tend to believe these experiences are just imaginary.
Maybe these are rare events because God has hidden them from us unless He considers it appropriate to reveal such events. God has chosen to remain invisible to us for His reasons. He has done a perfect job of preserving that anonymity throughout human history.
We typically only see such events in religious settings or on the dark, evil side when people are dabbling in occult or demonic activities (Spiritism). Also, some believe we see it in encounters with UFOs, which may be fallen angels perpetrating a hoax. Some spirits are God’s enemies, called demons or fallen angels. They have a purpose in trying to mislead us from following God. They could be putting on mysterious displays to throw us off. More on that in another part of this website.
Humans Are Spirit Living Temporarily in Human Bodies
Passages like those cited above indirectly point to the idea that part of us exists in a higher dimension. The Christian Scriptures teach that we are composed of a spirit, a soul, and a body. (See 1 Thessalonians 5:23 and this web-based teaching: “The 3 Parts of Man – Spirit, Soul, and Body“). Remember, spirits live in higher dimensions.
That’s why a medium could conjure Samuel, and Jesus could be transfigured, appear different, and talk with Elijah and Moses who have been physically dead for a long time. They are still alive in the higher dimensions as spirits. When they intersect our three dimensions, they appear as described in those verses and other ways.
Spiritual Connection to Physical Life
Judeo-Christian Scriptures tell us that spirits are the eternal part of our existence. Therefore, the health of our spirits is far more critical than the health of our bodies. We know how vital the health of our bodies is, so spiritual health is much more important.
Our soul is our personality, conscience (mind, emotions, and will), and the connection between body and spirit. So, a healthy soul is also essential.
All of this suggests that we have a direct connection to higher dimensions, and part of us is constantly, subconsciously, connected with the higher dimensions. It happens through our spirits, and that part of our souls linked to our spirits.

Most people aren’t even aware of their spirits. However, the Christian Scriptures are full of descriptions of interaction with God, who is Spirit, through God’s Holy Spirit speaking with our spirits.
Conclusion
There is a whole universe in a dimension higher than ours called Heaven. That dimension contains many people (Heavenly beings), which we distinguish from our dimension by calling them “spirits”. In those higher dimensions, objects also exist, just like in the physical dimension. They are all invisible to us, just like three-dimensional beings are invisible to Flatlanders. Unless we have an inter-dimensional encounter, we can’t perceive higher-dimensional beings. Such interactions are very rare.
In a nutshell, God is invisible to us because He is spirit, which means He lives in a higher dimension that our three-dimensional minds cannot fully comprehend.
We hope this sparks all kinds of questions to explore on our site, like why would God create a dimension lower than the one He lives in?
